Three Useful Ways To Deal With Anxiety With Zerxes Ginwalla, Holistic Health Therapist
Oct 12, 2021Anxiety is something that many of us have experienced and learning how to cope with it effectively can have a huge impact on our mental, emotional and physical health. Today, I am joined by Zerxes Ginwalla, Holistic Health Therapist and Founder of 3 Rivers Homeopathy, who will share a few techniques that we can use to cope with and prevent anxiety. Zerxes has been working with patients for over 10 years now and some of the healing success stories his patients share serve as undeniable evidence of the power of natural healing.
Zerxes, hello and thank you for joining me in discussing how we can deal with anxiety as this is a feeling, which a lot of people are familiar with nowadays. Before we dive into the topic, can you share a little bit more about what you do and how you got into Homoeopathy?
Thank you for this opportunity. As a young man, growing up in India, I had a fascination with the medical field. This was probably in the genes as one of my late grandfather’s was a prominent dentist and the other practised Homeopathy. It wasn’t till much later in life that my belief in conventional medicine took a bit of a battering when we, as a family, did not find the answers to some chronic health ailments. The more I studied the healing arts, the more I was astounded by how little conventional medicine resolves. Studying energy healing helped me understand the auras and chakras and how by simply and easily balancing them, we can create such a beautiful synergy in the body.
My study of Hypnotherapy and NLP helped me to harness the enormous power of the unconscious mind, manage negative thoughts and programme oneself for success. Homeopathy was like the icing on the cake, helping heal areas not just in the physical realm but also emotionally and spiritually.
I am often affectionately called a one-stop-shop by my clients for their healthcare and lifestyle needs cause with me not only do they get to understand their self-limiting belief systems, fears, spirituality but also benefit from learning to make the right choices with their lifestyle and nutrition. In a few short weeks, I help them transform into the best version of themselves, using my unique combination of therapies.
I am also such a huge believer in the holistic approach to health and well-being. In your experience with treating people who have had anxiety attacks, what do you think the main causes are? Personally, one of my anxiety triggers is feeling overwhelmed.
Anxiety is one of the most common mental conditions I treat within my clinic. Unfortunately, there are millions of people within the UK who silently suffer without even knowing that there are so many natural treatments available out there. To understand anxiety, we have to understand early humans. Cave dwellers had to always be on high alert – generally, a state of fight, flight or in some cases, freeze. Modern-day human beings are no different, with all the stressors of a fast-paced stressful life, and suffer from the same energy handed down over the generations. All that is required is a small trigger to cause the Perfect Storm in the Brain. The Amygdala (located at the base of the brain) fires up causing a feeling of “not being in control” and an irrational fear grips the person causing a rapid heartbeat, sweating, inability to breathe, nausea amongst other symptoms.
Have there been moments in your life when you have experienced anxiety and how did you deal with it?
I have been quite fortunate to have experienced only one nasty incident when I was studying for my Cardiology Exam. Balancing a stressful corporate job and trying to excel at Homeopathy College finally took its toll on me one evening as I felt pain in the chest area. A trip to the A&E comforted some of the ruffled feathers as the Doctor smiled and asked if I was anxious about something. It wasn’t till later that evening as symptoms hadn’t subsided, I texted my Homeopath and she advised Ignatia, a beautiful Homeopathic remedy for Hysteria. As soon as the globule touched my tongue, it felt like a calming blanket enveloped my whole body and mind. The feeling was instantaneous, and this is the power of Homeopathy in all its glory.
Can you share a few techniques that everyone can do at home to deal with anxiety symptoms?
My treatments and programmes are tailormade for each client per their requirements, however, here are some generic techniques that I hope will help your readers.
- Technique 1: 5’s rule
Name slowly 5 items around you that you can see, 5 items you can hear, 5 things you can eat or would like to eat, 5 things that you can touch, 5 things you can smell. This offers a distraction.
- Technique 2: Focus your attention
Focus on a spot on the wall, like a nail. Describe it in detail, colour, shape, surroundings, paint on the wall, etc. This offers another form of distraction.
- Technique 3: Breathing:
Sit on a comfortable chair, with the spine tall, this opens up the chest to allow the correct breathing technique. Imagine the top of your head is being pulled up by a string to enhance this posture.
Breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, breathe out for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts. Once you get smooth oxygen flow into the diaphragm, the mind will automatically relax.
Are there any tips that you can also give us on preventing anxiety attacks?
Ideally, I advise my clients to meditate first thing in the morning as soon as they wake up. There are many free online 10-minute guided meditations. Meditation is probably one of the best preventive measures as it keeps the Amygdala in equilibrium avoiding any unnecessary flare-ups.
Keeping a Gratitude Journal is another effective method to work on the Unconscious Brain reminding it of the many gifts the Universe has bestowed upon us.
Regular physical exercise, drinking lots of filtered water, cutting back on caffeinated beverages and alcohol, and eating an Organic rich diet. Above all, make every effort to get 9 hours of sleep a day.
You were a great help to me a few years ago when I was dealing with a stubborn cough, which the doctors couldn’t find the cause of, and you quickly got to the root of the issue and helped resolve it.
